Advice for Choosing a Piano Teacher
An issue has been raised about what a concert pianist is and what a piano recital is. A concert is referred to as a performance with various musical instruments involved. A piano recital on the other hand is a solo performance with just the piano. Another concept of a concert is a live performance before a relatively big group or audience.
Is there any difference?
The words concert and recital when taken into context as various instruments and piano solo performance respectively, there is a difference. But when both words are taken into context as performance before a large crown or group, there is practically no difference.
Would a solo performance for drums be called a recital? Maybe people will be divided on this. Others yet might just say is would be better called as a show. Then again, a show can be a one-man show or more.
How to consider the types of performances better
For people who have nothing to do, they could argue about what a concert and a recital are really about. It just happens that some stage live performances sound better when the words concert or show is appended after a name or a title. Piano recital has been associated ever since for students playing the piano before an audience that would often comprise of parents and relatives of the performers.
What really matters is who is, or who are, performing before a large audience. It does not really matter if it says recital, concert or show. In the past, adding “live” after the name of any celebrity performing on stage or television has been the fad. This is because of technology now that can make a video and edit it to appear as live on television.
